Connie, also known to many of her fans as "ConBon,” has been one of Mather's best friends ever since they met on the Hillary Clinton campaign in 2007. Although Connie does not admit she’s a Valley Girl (okay, she’s technically not), Mather likes to describe her as exactly that … albeit a very smart one. The good news is that Connie is currently a Manhattanite, so she and Mather are able to take their Korean-Jewish hijinks all over the island (NEVER Brooklyn!) – and most commonly, in KTown! Whether she’s burning the midnight oil on a campaign, on a dance floor, or at a Full Moon party in Thailand, Connie is, without a doubt, Mather’s most illustrious partner in crime. Mather is completely ignoring Connie’s hipster status for the sake of this website. Thank god the bride gets to pick out fabulous high heels for her girls on the wedding night, so Connie’s Converse can wait quietly back in her room.
Nicole, also an October bride-to-be, has been one of Mather's best friends ever since they met in the "Challenger" dorms freshman year of college. (At the time, Mather specifically liked to ID people based on their dormitory affiliation.) Nicole later became Mather's 'little sis' in their sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta, and a confidante for the rest of school and beyond. Despite her stunning good looks and girly style, Nicole is kind of a man. This isn’t just about her hating children and puppies – it goes beyond that. Whatever it is, Mather appreciates it and has a special way of relating to it. They celebrate this special bond from New York to Vegas by waving around their magic wands, cheering on their beloved Giants and sippin’ on blood marys. All of that said … deep down, Nicole is a true pink-loving princess … and she uses a special voice on the phone if she really likes you.
Marissa, while technically the sister of the groom, has become one of Mather's most treasured friends and family members over the past 9 years. Mather always wanted a big sister growing up. She also always wanted to be blonde, named either Marissa (or Melissa or Tiffany) - with braces, ideally. It goes without saying that this relationship with Marissa has fulfilled a lot of Mather’s childhood dreams. And like every little girl’s fantasy … yeah, Marissa is basically a professional figure skater, too! Her marriage to Brian (a groomsman) is pretty much like the movie “Cutting Edge.” She is also a wise (slightly older) sister to Paul, a fabulous wife to Brian, and an energetic mother to future-flower-girl (and one of our four perfect nieces) Sophie!
Marcia is the bride’s closest cousin. So close, in fact, that the two act like typical, bickering (and absolutely loving!) sisters. Lucky for Marcia, she actually has a beautiful and brilliant sister of her own, Pearl. And lucky for everyone, cousin Mather has remained a totally selfless and well-adjusted only child to this day. Mather has loved spending quality time with her cousin ever since their younger years playing games (and pulling each other’s hair and screaming) while their parents were listening to the Grateful Dead and doing god knows what else in the next room. Marcia and Mather – both named after Mather’s late grandmother Marcia – have since upgraded their activities to concerts, cooking and coupon shopping. And despite Marcia being the most anti-texting, anti-last-minute-planning, and anti-easygoing person Mather knows, Marcia is - second to none – the smartest, most caring and most responsible person Mather has ever met. “Love, love,”
Heather is a girl-crush realized. Despite being acquaintances in college (both girls were obviously big deals on campus), Heather and Mather did not really get to know each other until they were both living in NYC for grad school. Since their mutual admiration existed before they met, their mutual obsession and close friendship was immediate. Mather sees so much of herself in Heather; they have such an easy and close bond and are twins on so many levels (Mary Kate and Ashley). But at the same time, Mather is endlessly in awe of Heather and her Doshay ways … the girl never stops. From her sky-high energy level that allowed her to make friends all over Israel during their trip there together, to her continued education (she’s now busy getting her PhD), she is tireless. Most importantly, she’s tireless with her friendships. You couldn't ask for a better cheerleader in the world. Oh, and tireless with her words as well … for anyone who thinks Mather is the fastest talker you’ve ever met, make sure you chat it up with Heather at the wedding!
Justyn, a recent bride herself, is Mather’s oldest friend in this bunch. Dating back to the Hamlin days, Justyn and Mather became best friends in the 7th grade (100% AFTER THE BAT MITZVAH, let me just put that out there right now) and were inseparable immediately. Through those years and the beginning of high school, the girls experienced many firsts together (firsts that they will continue to reminisce over offline). The best news of all is that they’ve ended up living in NYC just blocks from each other, and have been able to rekindle their friendship 10-fold!The official Joe and Moe radio show never took off, but Mather still believes that if anybody ever put cameras on these two, it would be reality TV gold (dancing GIFs and all). Mather is taking any and all wedding tips from this lady, because her big day just went down in Miami and was superb on every level. She may be Mather’s black hole, but she’s more than worth every forgotten moment.
Jenny knows Mather better than almost anyone on this planet (she and Paul can relate on things nobody else can). That’s what happens when you spend three years sharing the same room. Being roommates in an apartment wasn’t enough; Mather and Jenny felt that the only way they could really bond was by having their beds almost next to each other in the same room (with a conference table of course!). Meeting in freshman year orientation, Mather and Jenny were each other’s first college friends. Oddly enough, Jenny is also a MATHER. That’s right, she really is related to Cotton Mather (the famous old guy who killed witches). Their connections are truly endless … from cousin Bob, to Mather being the rugby team mascot … these two are Lloyd and Harry for life. If there is a way for Mather to put into words that little move where she points at her eyes and then at Jenny’s … well, she’s doing that right now.
Freb (Mather just can’t even refer to her as Rebecca in this setting) is one of Mather’s closest friends from college – dating back to the beginning of freshman year. Freb is more of an essence than a name at this point … but alas, the moniker does officially date back to dorm room (read: online) shenanigans. How far Mather’s little Frebblestein has come since then. From bartender and stand-up comedian to book/movie writer and savior of our current healthcare system (oh yeah, have we mentioned her start up?!), Freb is a funny-woman, a lifesaver and an inspiration to us all. One might say this combo is quite Frebalicious. For anyone who thinks Mather is chatty, inquisitive and overly friendly, … have you met Freb? Mather’s favorite smokey-eyed Russian (see picture for reference) is seriously one of the most magnetic people you can meet. She’s also not that good at math (but that’s her dad's fault.)
